The Mitsubishi Triton, Australia’s name for the L200 pickup, has achieved the maximum safety rating of five stars in ANCAP’s rigorous crash test safety programme.
ANCAP has awarded the new generation Mitsubishi Triton a five-star safety rating in its later round of testing, putting it at the top of the light commercial vehicle category.
The first in a range of new light commercial vehicles (LCV) entering the Australasian market this year, the Mitsubishi L200 has risen to the top of its class following crash test assessments. This five-star ANCAP safety rating applies to all Triton variants, including all cab styles, engines and drivetrains.
“In terms of safety, LCVs continue to lag passenger vehicles with 57% of LCVs sold holding the maximum five-star ANCAP safety rating. In comparison, 90% of new passenger vehicles sold are five star rated,” said ANCAP Chief Executive Officer, Mr Nicholas Clarke.
“This five-star rating for the high-selling Triton is a great achievement as this will translate to increased safety on worksites and on our roads,” said Mr Clarke.
ANCAP has tested more than 515 vehicles to date and, while that includes a number of models only available in Australiasian territories, many of the vehicles are shared across Europe and the UK.
ANCAP is supported by all Australian and New Zealand motoring clubs, the Australian Government, the New Zealand Government, Australian state and territory governments, the Victorian Transport Accident Commission, NRMA Insurance and the FIA Foundation.
