Next-Generation Volkswagen Amarok Previewed With Black Sheep Treatment • Professional Van

Volkswagen has released some teaser images of the new Amarok, due to arrive in 2022, but Swiss accessory firm Black Sheep Innovations has taken those shots as the basis of some photo-realistic renders showing how the new model could look.

Adorned with some of its bespoke designs, Black Sheep teamed up with vehicle design specialists Thilmany Creative to create the most detailed first impression yet.

What is clear from the teaser images is that Volkswagen has followed fashion and fitted an imposing front grille to the Amarok. Taking that and adding the latest Volkswagen design language to the pickup truck, Black Sheep’s render gives a strong indication as to what the new model will look like.

Form and Function

With hints of the Touareg SUV, the shapely integrated headlights flow seamlessly into the grille, although it’s understood that LED lighting might not make it onto the production vehicle. The rugged off-road tyres, recovery winch and bold towing eyelets seen in the teaser images will also be missing from the production model, all in the name of pedestrian safety and emissions regulations.

Tha gives accessory developers the freedom to create new and innovative additions. Black Sheep has taken that freedom and created a concept for the new Amarok that should appeal to the most adventurous users.

A neatly integrated light bar sits at the front, using Osram LEDs, flanked by recovery points painted in a brightly contrasting blue. Another LED light bar sits at the leading edge of the roof, ahead of a full-length roof platform that’s strong enough to carry a spare wheel and a Howling Moon rooftop tent.

Other possible developments include changes made specifically for hunting or municipal vehicles. As the new Volkswagen Amarok pickup will share its platform with the forthcoming Ford Ranger, with both being built at Ford’s Silverton plant in South Africa, it’s possible that many accessories developed will be usable on either model.
