Bollinger has revealed renderings of the near production-ready B2 pickup truck, its pure-electric take on professional trucks for the US market.

Looking a little like somebody has described a classic Land Rover Defender over the phone to somebody with a huge bucket of Lego, these images of the B2 are more significant than they may initially appear.

The changes between the black and grey concept models appear to be few and far between, although the change in colour does highlight some of the more robust design choice,s such as the exposed rivets and external door hinges. The air intakes behind the headlights have disappeared, suggesting that Bollinger has got to grips with the thermal demands of the battery pack.

The doors have been resized, the front being slightly smaller and the rear slightly larger, no doubt to make entry and exit a little easier for all. The sliding glass panels in each door have now been replaced by more traditional windows, and the cabin looks to be slightly taller than we’ve previously seen.

More notable, however, is the load box at the back of the truck is now independent of the body, allowing for conversions and chassis cab variants to be produced, opening up access to a significant portion of the market.

The Detroit-based firm has set out to build “the last truck you’d ever need to own” so the B2 is a minimalist, utilitarian vehicle. However, a 120kWh battery pack is promised, providing an electric range of 200 miles. The 620hp motor provides more than 900Nm of torque, and a payload said to be more than two tonnes.

Production of the Bollinger B2, and its sibling B1 SUV, is slated to start next year, with prices starting from $125,000 (£95,000). The company says that more than 1,000 customers have placed a $1,000 (£750) deposit on a B1 or B2 to date.
