Maxus has revealed its new eDeliver 5 electric van at this year’s Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham. As the name suggests, it’s larger than the compact eDeliver 3 but smaller than the eDeliver 7 and large eDeliver 9 vans.
The pre-reveal slogan “The BUZZ is great, but it’s time to DELIVER” clearly signposts Maxus’s primary target customer, with the eDeliver 5 bearing more than a passing resemblance to the Volkswagen ID Buzz Cargo.

Power comes from a 163hp electric motor that develops 240Nm of torque. Energy is provided by a 64kWh battery pack that, according to WLTP testing, is enough to give the eDeliver 5 a range of up to 208 miles, with 300 miles promised in urban conditions.
The Maxus eDeliver 5 measures 4,800mm long and 1,874mm wide, with two roof height options leaving the van standing 1,960 or 2,180mm tall. With the low roof option, the eDeliver 5 will be able to navigate most car parks or height-restricted locations while squeezing in 6.6m3 of cargo. That extends to 7.6m3 for the high roof model. Both models have a payload limit of 1,200kg and can tow 1,500kg.

That makes the van shorter and narrower than a Ford Transit Custom but able to carry a higher cargo volume, with a weight limit comparable to some models of Ford’s popular LCV. It dwarfs the ID Buzz’s capabilities, almost doubling the cargo volume and payload capacity of the German electric van.
Access to the load box is via sliding doors on each side, with twin barn door-style openings at the rear. Lashing hooks are in place, as you would expect.
The minimalist cabin is well equipped, with the 12.3-inch infotainment screen providing access to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, with adaptive cruise control, air conditioning, 360-degree cameras, rear parking sensors and an Alcolock interface also in place.
