Buyers looking to back British-built products can now look towards another van as the Fiat begins manufacturing the Scudo in Luton. While it might appear to be an Italian model, Fiat will build the van alongside other versions adorned with Citroen, Peugeot or Vauxhall badges.
Identical in all but cosmetic details to the Vauxhall Vivaro, Stellantis will produce the British-built Fiat Scudo in right-hand drive form for the UK market and left-hand drive models for Europe. Thanks to its popularity across Europe, production will continue at Hordain
, France, where the battery-powered e-Scudo version is assembled.
Fiat has never produced a vehicle in the UK, but Stellantis, the parent company, is taking advantage of excess capacity at plants worldwide. The Scudo will be another feather in the Stellantis badge-engineering cap, where it will join models labelled as the Citroen Dispatch, Citroen Jumpy, Opel Vivaro, Peugeot Expert and Vauxhall Vivaro.
“It’s great news for Luton Plant to start manufacturing the Fiat Professional Scudo,” commented Mark Noble, Luton plant director. “This means we now produce all of the Stellantis brands mid-sized LCVs, for both the UK and the European markets.”
The Fiat Scudo sits above the compact Doblo van and below the larger Ducato panel van in the Fiat Professional range.
