Stellantis has outlined a major commercial vehicle strategy that will see 11 new models launched globally by 2030, including next-generation van platforms, renewed pickup models and a new autonomous “box on wheels” concept.

The Stellantis Pro One commercial vehicle division, which covers brands including Citroen, Fiat Professional, Peugeot, Vauxhall, Opel and Ram, says the plan is designed to increase global sales volumes by 30% by 2030 while moving the business beyond vehicle supply and further into fleet services, connectivity, conversions and uptime support.

Last year, Stellantis sold around 1.65 million commercial vehicles, taking the number one slot in Europe and South America, number two in the Middle East and Africa, and number three in North America.

New van platforms will support electric, hybrid and combustion power

At the centre of the new product plan will be two new multi-energy van platforms, covering mid-size (such as the Peugeot Expert and Vauxhall Vivaro) and large (Citroen Relay and Fiat Ducato) vans. These will use the STLA Brain electrical architecture and are being developed to support battery electric, hybrid and combustion powertrains.

Stellantis says the next-generation platforms will focus on payload, cargo volume and conversion readiness, with hybrid technology playing a major role alongside electric and diesel or petrol options, depending on market requirements.

Four product renewals are also planned before 2030. These include an updated small van, with a particular focus on South America, a major renewal of the company’s global compact van, and the introduction of two new electric powertrains across the commercial vehicle line-up. New LFP and NMC battery options are also planned, to improve both range and affordability.

Ram and Fiat pickup ranges set for renewal

The strategy also includes a stronger focus on pickups. Stellantis Pro One will renew the Fiat Strada and Fiat Toro in South America, introduce the Ram Rampage to North America, and refresh its full-size Ram pickup range, including light-duty, heavy-duty and chassis-cab models, although there’s still no expectation of sales in the UK.

A range-extender electric pickup is also part of the plan, alongside a new mid-size Ram pickup for North America. Stellantis says the mid-size pickup sector is a strategic priority, with the company also working on a more affordable workhorse product through an existing partnership.

Pro One NEXT targets reduced fleet downtime

For van fleets, the other significant part of the announcement is Pro One NEXT, a new uptime-focused service ecosystem currently being piloted in Europe.

The system uses vehicle data, connectivity, dedicated command centres, dealers, parts operations and technical services to monitor vehicles, manage cases proactively and reduce downtime. Stellantis says the aim is to move towards 100% vehicle uptime, although that should be treated as an ambition rather than a guaranteed operating figure.

“With Pro One NEXT, we are taking a decisive step forward in the way we support our customers’ business,” said Eric Laforge, global senior vice president of Stellantis Pro One.

“By combining data, connectivity and operational expertise, through the deep integration of dealers, the Command Centre, and Stellantis Parts & Technical Services, we can proactively manage vehicle uptime, reduce complexity and deliver tangible value every day. This is how we strengthen our role as a trusted partner for professional customers.”

The wider Pro One ecosystem is built around five areas: data and connectivity, Pro One NEXT uptime support, integrated services such as finance, rental, insurance and charging, the Stellantis CustomFit conversion programme, and a professional service network covering more than 21,000 service points globally.

CustomFit is Stellantis’ conversion and personalisation programme, combining in-house conversion work with more than 550 certified partners worldwide.

Autonomous delivery concept planned for Hannover

Stellantis Pro One also confirmed plans to reveal an autonomous “box on wheels” concept at IAA Transportation in Hannover in September. The driverless, zero-exhaust-emission vehicle is intended to explore new last-mile delivery applications and will be presented as part of a wider services-based logistics ecosystem.

“Our target is to confirm Stellantis Pro One as a global reference for professional customers and a global leader, and what we have presented at the Investor Day on May 21 clearly shows the strength of our journey,” said Emanuele Cappellano, COO for Enlarged Europe and European Brands, and global head of Stellantis Pro One.

“Thanks to the commitment of Eric Laforge and the entire global Pro One team, we are transforming the way we serve our customers, combining product excellence, advanced technologies and a fully integrated ecosystem. This approach will enable us to drive sustainable growth, increasing volumes by 30%, and work towards 100% vehicle uptime.”
