Vauxhall ended 2023 as the best-selling electric van manufacturer, the third time in succession that the brand has topped the charts.

According to figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), Vauxhall registered 6,402 new electric vans last year — more than double its nearest rival and nearly one in three (29.8%) of every electric van sold. The vast majority of Vauxhall registrations were of the Vivaro Electric model, with the medium-size van, unsurprisingly, outselling every other electric van.

The diesel power Vivaro performed well throughout 2023, ending the year with 20,477 registrations and securing third place in the sales table behind the Ford Transit (28,280 registrations) and Ford Transit Custom (40,865 registrations).

Vauxhall Vivaro Electric is best-selling electric van

The brand’s success has pushed Vauxhall 34,632 registrations across its range of Combo, Vivaro and Movano models, marginally behind Volkswagen (34,707 registrations) and a long way behind the 103,026 registrations recorded by Ford.

Vauxhall has updated its entire LCV range with new powertrains, improved onboard technology, and significant price reductions for its electric models.

Its success bolsters parent company Stellantis, whose registrations across its Citroen, Fiat, Peugeot and Vauxhall brands made it the second-best-selling LCV manufacturing group in the UK in 2023, with 94,978 vehicles making their way to customers.

“It’s a fantastic achievement to be the UK’s best-selling e-LCV manufacturer for the third year running, demonstrating our long-standing commitment to electrifying Britain’s businesses,” explained James Taylor, managing director at Vauxhall. “With the award-winning Vivaro Electric continuing to be the leader in electric van sales and Vauxhall accounting for more than one in four electric vans sold in the UK in 2023, it’s clear that we are the brand of choice for van drivers looking to go electric.”
