The Vauxhall Vivaro Electric has been the UK’s best-selling electric van for the last two years and continues to lead the way after the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) revealed October’s registration details.

The Vivaro also tops the sales charts for the year to date, with its compact Combo Electric sibling following in third place. The combined sales of both models mean that almost a third of electric vans sold in the UK are Vauxhalls.

Overall registrations for the year — including diesel, hybrid and petrol vans — are up by 20.5%, with the diesel-powered Vivaro taking third place with 16,457 registrations, behind the 23,831 registrations of the Ford Transit and the 34,301 Ford Transit Custom vans taking to the road.

“Vauxhall continues to be the electric van maker of choice for UK businesses, with the Vivaro Electric and Combo Electric both posting impressive sales rankings so far this year,” commented James Taylor, managing director at Vauxhall. “Coupled with the recently launched Stellantis e-LCV Grant, UK businesses have embraced our e-LCV offering, demonstrating that van drivers can benefit hugely from electrification.”

“As the crucial pre-Christmas delivery period commences, there is a clear appetite for fleets to be fitted out with the latest vans – and it is of critical importance that those vans are the latest, cleanest zero emission models,” explains Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive. “With van makers committed to decarbonisation, the upcoming Autumn Statement is the moment for government to send the right signal to operators ahead of the introduction of the Zero Emission Vehicle Mandate. Measures that address van-specific infrastructure challenges and enable more operators across the UK to make the switch are essential as we move towards a pivotal stage of the transition.”
