Posh Pickup: Ford Ranger Platinum Coming to the UK • Professional Van

Ford is adding to the next-generation Ranger pickup, introducing a high-specification luxury Platinum model.

Sitting above the Wildtrak in the range, the Ranger Platinum features a 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel engine, exclusive exterior detailing and finishes, and a contemporary leather-trimmed cabin.

Ford Ranger Platinum: Exterior

The Platinum model is available exclusively in five-seat, double cab specification. To differentiate it from the regular models in the lineup, the Platinum receives a unique grille and silk chrome highlights around the vehicle. New 20-inch machined alloy wheels with high-gloss dark detailing add an extra touch of style.

The signature C-clamp daytime running lights surround matrix LED headlights at the front, while the rear gets a soft close tailgate. Privacy glass darkens the rear of the cabin, and roof rails, side steps and a sports bar add a purposeful look and extra practicality.

The model designation writ large across the bonnet’s leading edge is unique to the premium pickup. Sitting above the bold Ford badge, the ‘PLATINUM’ text clearly announces the arrival of the luxurious Ranger.

Ford Ranger Platinum: Interior

The Ranger Platinum’s interior receives as many touches as the exterior, with premium perforated and quilted leather seats with contrast stitching all around. The front seats get 10-way power adjustment, heating and cooling functions. Open-grained dark maple wood lifts the cabin ambience, creating an opulent experience accented with calming ambient lighting.

The next-generation Ford Ranger’s high-tech cockpit is carried over, with dual 12.0-inch screens highlighting its digital-first nature. The central vertically-mounted infotainment screen provides access to the eight-speaker B&O sound system.

Alongside Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, the Sync 4A software includes connectivity delivered by a standard FordPass Connect modem. This enables multiple vehicle modules to be updated over the air, future-proofing much of the software. For more conventional wireless devices — your smartphone — a wireless charging pad is included.

Building on the driver assistance systems included with the Ranger Wildtrak, the Platinum specification adds park assist (which will help you park and leave a parking space), blind spot monitoring and cross-traffic alert (both with trailer coverage), lane keeping alert and assistance, and a 360-degree camera.

Ford Ranger Platinum: Drivetrain

Ford is introducing its 3.0-lite V6 turbodiesel engine in the next-generation Ranger, which will be the standard choice in the Platinum model. Fitted to the Ford F-150 pickup in North America, UK customers will benefit from the 240hp output and impressive 600Nm of torque.

The Ranger’s new electronically controlled full-time all-wheel drive system delivers power to the road via a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Despite being tuned for refinement and comfort, with a gearbox re-engineered to reduce noise and vibration, the power available is enough to allow for towing loads of up to 3,500kg. The Platinum also offers the same load-carrying ability as all Ranger pickups, with a payload exceeding one tonne.

Ford Ranger Platinum: Pricing and Availability

Ford dealers can accept orders immediately, with the Ranger Platinum price tag starting at £44,400 plus VAT. Production is expected to begin in March 2023, with deliveries in late spring.

The Platinum tops the pickup range, sitting above the Wildtrak and alongside the new Ranger Raptor. Ford Ranger models start with the workhorse XL trim — ideally suited to construction, forestry or emergency services roles — priced from £27,550 plus VAT for the single chassis cab and rising to £29,800 for the double cab variant. The XLT double cab starts from £31,150, with the Wildtrak price tag rising from £39,350 upwards. The high-performance Raptor will cost buyers £57,960, this time including VAT, as it doesn’t qualify as a commercial vehicle in the UK.
