BYD has increased the quoted range of its E-Vali electric van to as much as 183 miles — an 18% increase over the initial figures — as testing continues with fleets, bodybuilders and professional operators.

The manufacturer now says the large electric van will cover between 152 and 183 miles, depending on the version.

When the E-Vali was unveiled at IAA Transportation in 2024, BYD quoted a range of between 137 and 155 miles.

BYD E-Vali enters operator testing

The updated figures were announced as the E-Vali returned to IAA Transportation in Hanover.

BYD is conducting an intensive field-testing programme with selected customers, bodybuilders and professional operators. The vans are being assessed under real working conditions, with feedback being gathered on performance, ease of use and suitability for different fleet operations.

However, no participating operators have been named and BYD hasn’t published any results from the trials.

The programme suggests that development is progressing, but it also underlines how long the E-Vali is taking to reach customers. When it was revealed in 2024, the van was expected to arrive in selected European markets during 2025. Since then, new rivals, including the Renault Trafic E-Tech, Kia PV7, and larger Renault Master E-Tech and Farizon SV, have been revealed, putting pressure on BYD.

What is the BYD E-Vali?

Developed specifically for Europe, the E-Vali is a purpose-built electric large van aimed primarily at parcel distribution and last-mile delivery fleets.

Both 3.5- and 4.25-tonne gross vehicle weight versions are planned, alongside rear- and all-wheel-drive powertrains.

The manufacturer announced two body lengths at launch, with the shorter L3 model providing 13.9m³ of load volume. The L4 increases this to 17.9m³.

Maximum payload was originally quoted at up to 1,450kg for the 4.25-tonne model. The 3.5-tonne version was rated to carry up to 700kg, although final figures may change before sales begin.

The van uses BYD’s lithium iron phosphate Blade Battery and supports rapid charging and vehicle-to-load capability. BYD has not published revised battery capacity or charging figures alongside the latest range announcement.

When will the BYD E-Vali arrive in the UK?

The E-Vali has already appeared at UK industry events, including a long-wheelbase, high-roof example fitted with parcel-delivery shelving and engineering storage by Modul-System.

That first UK conversion showed that work is underway to make the van suitable for British fleet applications.

BYD hasn’t formally confirmed UK prices or an on-sale date. However, Professional Van understands that right-hand-drive vehicles are expected to arrive during 2027.
