Volkswagen has revealed a prototype emergency services Amarok pickup at the AFAC23 exhibition in Brisbane, Australasia’s largest emergency management conference. The prototype showcases the recently launched Amarok Style V6, tailored for fire and rescue operations in partnership with MFI and Ecco Safety Group.
The modified vehicle integrates safety enhancements, including rear traffic alert, a reversing camera, and sensors. It also features a built-in rear signboard to improve communication with other drivers on the road.
The innovative emergency services version of the Amarok is currently undergoing evaluation by various fleets across Australia.
Volkswagen and Cupra national fleet sales manager Regine Zschernig said Volkswagens of various types, from the Golf hatchbacks to Crafter vans, are already in service with emergency fleets in every state and territory.
“Year to date, we have sold more than 1,400 Passat Proline wagons and sedans, and almost 600 Tiguan Allspace Proline
— and counting,” commented Zschernig.
The specially developed Proline models, customised with emergency services input, differ from civilian vehicles, with specific interior trim, an upgraded alternator, and provision for an additional battery.
“There are no alterations to brakes, engines or drivetrains,” added Zschernig. “Aside from the Proline adjustments, the police and ambulance have selected Volkswagen cars and SUVs that are essentially the very cars that the public drive.
“Volkswagen offers an unequalled array of mobility solutions, fit for purpose for fleets of all types. We have compact hatches, a full range of SUVs, a new ute range, and a full suite of commercial vans and chassis up to 5.5t GVM.”
