Toyota Car Derived Van Interior

Toyota is set to announce a new car derived van at the Commercial Vehicle Show at Birmingham’s NEC next week. Built in Britain at Toyota’s Burnaston plant, it is based on the Toyota Corolla Touring Sports car and will use Toyota’s self-charging hybrid powertrain.

By running with a petrol-powered engine, assisted by Toyota’s hybrid technology shared across its range, the new vehicle will avoid many of the ULEZ and congestion charges that are being applied across the country.

Toyota will reveal the full car derived van, along with pricing and specification details, at 9am on Tuesday 31 August, at the CV Show.

Car Derived Vans in the UK

The CDV market is rather small in the UK, with few rivals to choose from. These rivals, however, range from ultra-compact to practical propositions, so Toyota’s Corolla-based van could still face some significant competition.

Over the years, there have been many CDV options to choose from, but the options are currently rather sparse. Most obvious is the Ford Fiesta Van, which is a strong seller and brings the dynamic properties of the compact hatchback to the van sector.

Renault will also sell you a Zoe ZE. This ultra-compact van is powered by an electric motor, offering emissions-free motoring in a package that’s ideally suited to the city. However, its diminutive size means the payload options are rather limited.

Of more interest t most will be Dacia’s forthcoming Duster Commercial. This rugged but compact model will suit many niche industries and, despite the lack of off-road capabilities in the new Toyota, is likely to be the Corolla’s closest rival.
