Nissan has released the tiniest of teasers for its new electric van, with a five-second video revealing a vague outline of the new light commercial vehicle.

The video is accompanied by some text that adds a little mystery but no information.

However, we can assume that the new LCV will be revealed on 9 September, as that’s World EV Day. For now, you can watch the video at the foot of this page.

Rebadged Renault

While it’s currently unconfirmed, we expect the panel van to be Nissan’s version of the new Renault Kangoo. That would join the Mercedes-Benz EQT and become the third vehicle built on the same platform.

Using the Renault-Nissan Common Module Family CMF-C/D platform as its base, the new van is likely to be powered by an electric motor producing 100hp and 245Nm of torque, generated from a 44kWh battery pack. That should be good for a 165-mile range.

Nissan already has an electric LCV in its range, the e-NV200. However, global production of the e-NV200 is based at Nissan’s Barcelona plant. That plant is closing at the end of the year, necessitating the move to a new model as well as bringing an end to the Navara pickup in Europe.

With the recently launched Renault Kangoo ready for electrification, and being part of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance, it makes sense to pool resources and continue offering an electrically powered panel van. Production of the new model will be at Renault’s factory in Maubeuge, France, close to the Belgian border.

Pricing and Availability

At this stage, it’s too early to talk about prices and specifications. However, it’s expected that the new Nissan electric van will be available from Spring 2022.
