Volkswagen has started production of an updated Caddy Cargo, introducing revised exterior styling and a substantial infotainment upgrade.
The first examples are now rolling off the production line in Poznań, Poland, although Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has yet to confirm UK prices, specifications or an arrival date.
Despite Volkswagen describing it as the “new Caddy”, this is a mid-life update rather than an entirely new generation, with changes concentrated on its appearance and cabin technology, with no significant mechanical revisions announced.

So what has changed on the Volkswagen Caddy Cargo?
The most noticeable changes inside include a new freestanding 12.9-inch central touchscreen, replacing the smaller display fitted to the outgoing model.
Customisable touchscreen controls provide shortcuts to frequently used functions, while the touch-sensitive temperature sliders below the display are now illuminated. That should make them considerably easier to locate and operate after dark.
Digital Cockpit Pro — a full digital instrument cluster — is also being made standard across the Caddy range, alongside a new wireless phone-charging tray. Redesigned seat fabrics and revised dashboard trim complete the interior changes.

Outside, the Caddy receives a redesigned front apron, offered in painted or textured finishes depending on the model. Four new metallic colours have also been introduced.
New wheel designs ranging from 16 to 18 inches will also be available.
Petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid engines
There are no major changes beneath the bodywork. The updated Caddy range will continue to be available with petrol and diesel engines, together with the plug-in hybrid Caddy eHybrid.
The eHybrid combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor to produce a total of 150hp. Its 19.7kWh usable battery provides up to 76 miles of electric range.
The range will continue to include standard-wheelbase and longer Caddy Cargo Maxi models, alongside a broad selection of passenger, camper and flexible seating variants.

Pricing and availability
German prices for the updated Caddy Cargo start at €26,480 before local taxes, but that figure offers little indication of how much the van will cost in Britain. UK availability, prices and the final Caddy Cargo specification will be announced closer to its arrival.
