The new all-electric Ford E-Transit Custom is grabbing headlines, but Ford is bringing diesel-powered versions to the UK ahead of the eLCV, with pricing starting from £32,350 — a rise of around 15% over the hugely popular outgoing model.

Spending £32,350 (plus fees, taxes and VAT) will get a buyer a short wheelbase, low roof van in Leader specification, powered by a 2.0-litre 110hp diesel engine. Beyond that, trim levels go through Trend and Limited, with Trail, Active and Sport models to follow, all in what Ford calls ‘wave two’.

Ford Transit Custom Engine Options

Engine options will be expanded, with the same 2.0-litre diesel engine tuned to output 136hp at launch. Power outputs of 150 and 170hp will follow in 2024. A six-speed manual gearbox will be standard across the range, with all but the entry-level 110hp model also available with an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

A 227hp plug-in hybrid model, with a 2.5-litre petrol engine and electric motor combining to provide power, will join an all-electric E-Transit Custom with an 83kWh battery pack in ‘wave three’, which is expected to be late in 2024.

Ford Transit Custom Body Options

While the van will launch with just one body style, the full range will expand to include low and high roof options and two body lengths. The L1H1 Transit Custom will measure 5,050mm long and 1,968mm tall, with a cargo volume of 5.8m3. The longer chassis option adds 400mm to the van, while the high-roof model increases the vehicle’s height to 2,471mm. Combine both with the L2H2, and cargo volume increases to 9.0m3.

Payload limits run from 800kg to 1,400kg, depending on the vehicle specification.

Ford Transit Custom Trim Levels

Every Transit Custom looks set to come well equipped, with the entry-level Leader specification van being fitted with a 13-inch infotainment screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, along with keyless start, automatic LED headlights, cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, and reversing sensors.

The Trend vehicles add some coloured bumpers, climate control, front parking sensors, and a reversing camera, amongst other tech, for an extra £1,150. Keyless entry, alloy wheels, power-folding exterior mirrors, and plush Sensico trim are the reserve of the range-topping Transit Custom Limited specification, which carries a £3,730 pricing premium over the Leader spec.

Ford Transit Custom Availability

Specific launch dates haven’t been confirmed yet, but we expect the van to arrive in the UK in October, with customer deliveries soon after.
