Mitsubishi has extended its L200 range with the introduction of the Barbarian Plus. Taking the existing Barbarian model as a starting point, Mitsubishi has added a range of appealing additional features to create a high-spec model that still retains its commercial vehicle benefits.
Chief amongst the upgrades is a GST Plus II hardtop with pop-out side windows and a sliding bulkhead window. Locking centrally from the L200’s key fob, the composite top is colour coded to any of the pickup truck’s colour options and includes roof rails for attaching an additional light load.
The load bed now comes lined, protecting the L200’s paintwork, and there‘s even lighting to allow you to see any leftover pieces of your load hiding in the corners.

Elsewhere, it shares the same specification as the regular Barbarian model, so you’ll have heated leather seats, mood lighting, puddle lamps and an infotainment system with smartphone mirroring and a reversing camera.
The mechanical specifications remain the same as the rest of the L200 range, which means there’s a 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine up front, delivering 150hp and 400Nm of torque, mated to either a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox. Fuel economy as high as 32.1mpg is promised, and that’s not far from our own on-road experience.

Off-road prowess is guaranteed, thanks to the excellent chassis on the L200. The shift-on-the-fly Super Select 4WD system with locking centre-differential is still the most responsive and adaptable of all the current systems, and that’s joined by hill descent control for this sixth-generation model range. An offroad mode selector adapts the engine performance, electronic stability control and traction control for optimum performance across gravel, mud and snow, sand, and rock.
All the extras are worth £1,900 plus VAT, yet the uplift in price from the Barbarian to this Barbarian Plus if just £750 plus VAT. That translates to a price of £30,350 CV OTR for the manual model of the Mitsubishi L200 Barbarian Plus, rising to £31,770 CV OTR for the automatic model.
