Updated Peugeot Boxer Gets Updated Automatic Gearbox • Professional Van

Peugeot has renewed its entire light commercial vehicle range, with its large Boxer van receiving a bold new front end and improved interior. It’s also got a new eight-speed automatic gearbox that promises ‘enhanced comfort’ and ‘an easier driving experience’.

The Boxer’s EAT8 automatic gearbox is available on models equipped with 2.2-litre BlueHDi 140 and 180 engines. This powertrain benefits from both Light Duty (Euro 6E) and Heavy Duty (Euro VIE) homologation, with the Heavy Duty designed to allow for heavier conversions.

A new clutch design optimises shifts thanks to efficient engine torque management, which can reach 450Nm with the BlueHDi 180 engine — that’s 80Nm more than available with the previous manual transmission, achieving a best-in-class torque figure. A hydraulic accumulator also reduces the gearbox response time, allowing for smoother operation of the Start & Stop system.

In addition to diesel power, with the new automatic gearbox or the existing six-speed manual gearbox, the electric E-Boxer offers a new all-electric powertrain with 270hp and 410Nm of torque, powered by a 110kWh battery, allowing it to reach a range of up to 263 miles, according to official test figures.

Updates to the Boxer also include exterior styling changes around the front of the van, with a new front bumper, grille, and mirror housing. The van also receives a host of safety and convenience technology, including an electric parking brake, keyless entry and start, a 10.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless smartphone charging, driver fatigue alert, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection.

Customers will continue to be able to select from a range of different configurations, with two wheelbases (3.45m and 4.04m) and two body lengths (L2 and L4) for a total of four bodies offering load volumes from 13–17m3.

The revised Peugeot Boxer panel van range starts at £30,615 plus VAT, with the new EAT8 automatic gearbox adding £2,100 to the list price. Electric E-Boxer models start at £50,535 plus VAT, before any applicable government incentives or grants.
